Can Mark Sanchez Lead the Jets to the Super Bowl
Posted September 28th, 2009 by Ryan
A lot of young quarterbacks come into the NFL after having an unforgettable college career and fall flat on their face, in fact most of the quarterbacks that do come into the NFL after being a big name in college fail rather quickly, but a few actually flourish in the right system at the right time.
Matt Leinart was a college football God at USC winning championship after championship and the Heisman, but the minute he stepped into the NFL and put on an Arizona Cardinals uniform it was another story altogether as he really struggled and eventually lost his starting job to veteran Kurt Warner who subsequently took the Cards to the Super Bowl.
Vince Young had a very impressive career at Texas and actually upset Matt Leinart and company in the BCS championship his last year, but the NFL was another beast entirely for the lightening quick Young as he hit a brick wall much like Leinart. Young was without a doubt much more successful than Leinart in Arizona as he was able to play pretty well for the Tennessee Titans for a time, but he started to really struggle and the fans turned on him which eventually lead to him being benched in favor of veteran Kerry Collins who lead the Titans to quite possibly their best season last year.
Then we come to New York Jets rookie phenom Mark Sanchez whose future is very much up in the air, but looking very promising thus far in only three games. After 3-0 start, beating teams like the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans consecutively and only throwing one interception in the process (which wasn’t his fault) talks of the Jets being a Super Bowl contender are starting to circulate.
Last season the Jets were a good football team lead by future hall of fame quarterback Brett Favre, a solid running back with Thomas Jones and decent coaching by Eric Mangini, but they failed to make the playoffs after having a red hot start of 8-3. Subsequently, changes were made by bringing in Rex Ryan to replace Eric Mangini at head coach, Favre left to eventually join the Minnesota Vikings and the Jets decided to draft a potential franchise quarterback in Mark Sanchez out of USC.
With so many changes in just a short amount of time the results usually end up in a very disappointing season, but for some reason Sanchez, Rex Ryan and the Jets defense have meshed together perfectly and have resulted in a 3-0 start and contender status for the other team in New York.
So the question is: Can Mark Sanchez lead the Jets to a Super Bowl? In my opinion, most definitely and I believe he will! If not this season, in the very near future! This week, the best USA online sportsbooks have the Jets as 6.5 point underdogs against the Saints - who have been on fire as well this season.
