Randy Moss done with New England Patriots after next season
Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jeremy
A couple of seasons ago, the New England Patriots had one of the best offensive attacks we had ever seen in the National Football League as they just lit up the scoreboards on a weekly basis with an dynamic air attack led by future hall of fame quarterback Tom Brady.
One of the main reasons for the Patriots success a couple of seasons ago was their seemingly limitless amount of offensive weapons at Tom Brady’s disposal. The Patriots have never really been that great of the team in the ground game, but it didn’t matter as they had newly acquired wide receiver, arguably one of the best to ever play the game, in Randy Moss formally of the lowly Oakland Raiders as Brady’s number one target in the high powered offense.
Before Randy Moss was traded to the New England Patriots, he was basically just wasting his time with the Oakland Raiders as Al Davis and company weren’t doing anything to surround their superstar wide receiver with talent enough to compete in the AFC or even in the AFC West division.
As a result of the lack of effort of the Raiders owner to bring in anything that resembled an attempt at creating a winner in Oakland, Moss began to fall off the map and basically quit on his team.
Fortunately, head coach Bill Belichick believed that the Randy Moss still had potential to be one of the best receivers in the league once again and most importantly one of Tom Brady’s main targets in New England and decided to pull the trigger on the trade to bring in the Pro Bowler.
Even though the controversial trade got some heavy criticism around the league because Randy Moss had been labeled a quitter and nothing more than excess baggage, it ultimately turned out to be one of the best moves the franchise ever made as Moss quickly got back to Pro Bowl form and helped turn the New England Patriots in a perennial superpower in the AFC once again.
The move to get Randy Moss was the right one, but it has yet to result in another Super Bowl title for New England and with Moss’ contract ending soon, the future hall of fame wide receiver believes the Patriots will move on without him.
Next season Moss will be heading into the last year of his three year $27 million dollar contract and the Patriots haven’t exactly reached out to the wideout to discuss an extension that would almost certainly be the last deal of his career in the NFL.
It is totally uncertain what the Patriots intentions are involving Randy Moss, but I won’t be surprised to see Tom Brady put his two cents in on having Moss in a Patriots uniform for the foreseeable future.
