Jimmy Clausen signs four year deal with Carolina Panthers

Heading into the 2010 NFL Draft recently, everyone knew that Oklahoma’s Heisman trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford would get selected first overall by the St. Louis Rams, but it was very uncertain when any of the other big-name quarterbacks would get drafted.

The one quarterback that everyone was wondering where he would land after Bradford was Florida’s Tim Tebow. Even though Tebow has gotten a lot of recognition as possible the greatest college football player of all-time, the former Heisman trophy got a lot of criticism for his throwing motion and no one was going to be surprised to see he get selected in the second or third round of the draft.

Ironically, just 14 picks after Bradford, Tim Tebow was selected by the Denver Broncos, but even though that was big surprise to most people, what was even a bigger surprise was that Tebow was picked before Colt McCoy (Texas) and Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame).

Besides Sam Bradford, the consensus of NFL Draft analysts and around league was that Jimmy Clausen was the next best quarterback available, but despite that probably being the truth, the Notre Dame gunslinger didn’t get selected until the 48th pick in the second round by the Carolina Panthers.

Fortunately for Clausen, his chances of actually getting some playing time are looking pretty good as he only has youngster Matt Moore standing in his way as of right now and if Moore struggles early, then Clausen will almost certainly get a shot behind center.

As a way of avoiding any kind of holdout from the promising young quarterback, the Carolina Panthers signed Jimmy Clausen to a four-year deal, but the terms aren’t exactly clear as or right now. The terms we do know is that he will have able $2.83 million guaranteed and the deal should be worth about $6.3 million dollars.
