During a press conference, last week, the winner of the USD 590.5 million Powerball drawing was finally revealed by the Florida Lottery. The drawing took place on May 18. From Zephyrhills, Ms. Gloria C. MacKenzie claimed the prize and chose to receive the same in a one-time payment. The amount, which she will receive, is USD 370,896,780.84.
Cynthia O’Connell, Secretary of the Florida Lottery, said, “We, at Florida Lottery, have always been about making dreams become reality. Today, Ms. MacKenzie benefitted from our goal. The entire Zephyrhills Community and Florida State is excited with her accomplishment. We are thrilled that the jackpot was won by a Florida resident. We hope that she can fulfill all her dreams with her new fortune.”
The ticket was bought from Publix in Zephyrhills. The store, which sold the ticked, received an incentive of USD 85,000.
In her statement to Florida Lottery, Ms MacKenzie said, “Prior to the drawing, I and my son, Scott, agreed that we will be splitting any proceeds, which would come from our winning. If it was not for another player in the line, who allowed me to get in front of the line and buy the ticket, I would not have been able to purchase the winning ticket. I would hope that people would help us in maintaining privacy for the benefit of our family.”
