Last week, Pete King, a New York Politician, introduced a new act at the House of Representatives. The 2013 online gambling regulation bill has been designed for creating a uniform framework for controlling the online activity and protecting the rights of the consumers.
This new legislation is going to ensure that online gambling will not be governed by inconsistent laws of different states, as it was adopted by the opinion of Department of Justice in 2011.
According to Department of Justice, the online gambling activity was not to be prohibited under the federal law, provided it didn’t involve sports.
In a press release, King added, “At this stage, online gambling is not regulated uniformly. The operators are yet to receive license. Again, consumers do not have any kind of protection from scam and abuse. With the states approaching the problem in a piecemeal manner, it might lead to not only conflicting, but also inconsistent laws in different regions. This will lead to a varying consumer protection level in different states. At the same time, there will be perverse incentive with the state administration, when it comes to the gambling standards for attracting gambling operators to generate more revenues.”
Safe & Secure Internet Gambling Initiative lauded his bill. This initiative backs online gambling regulation, which is put up against compulsive gambling, underage gambling and fraud. At the same time, this group lays the platform for creating several job opportunities and generating revenues for stimulating the economic expansion of the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Initiative, Michael Waxman said, “I will be shocked, if Congress will not make a quick move for considering this legislation. There is a need of creating uniformity in online gambling regulation across the nation. At the same time, this regulation will help in protecting the right of the customers, irrespective of their location.”
