During the State Assembly meet on Monday in New Jersey, where they will discuss the voting agenda, faith of online gambling will be at stake.
It is believed that the bill, which might make New Jersey the first in US to provide online gambling, has been made a part of the voting agenda. Supporters are hoping to have everything in place for getting the bill on the desk of Governor Christie by next week’s end.
However, just a couple of years back, it was Christie, who vetoed a bill similar to this. According to him, it was wrong to believe that the ban imposed by the state constitution is not going to be violated, if the residents of the state are allowed to gamble sitting on the couches of their living room. The ban is “to not allow wagering anywhere in the state outside of the Atlantic City”.
Today, Ray Lesniak, D-Union, State Senator and chief booster of the bill in Trenton, conceded that he cannot comment on the fact that if Christie will have a change of mind on this issue or not. Again, the spokesman of the governor also declined to make any comment on this regard.
Lesniak shared the possible benefits of passing the bill. He indicated that the casinos might take in around USD 100 million on an annual basis from their online counterpart. Again, the state can make a collection of 10 percent of the overall revenue in the form of taxes.
Burzichelli, the Assemblyman, D-Gloucester, believes that in case New Jersey leapfrogs other states like California and Nevada for becoming the first in the country to provide internet gambling, it is going to become the regulatory hub of the nation.
Again, the approval of the bill is going to add a number of technical jobs with lucrative pay. There may be an opportunity for New Jersey to run internet casino games for other states as well, once they come aboard.
