Genting, casino giants based in Malaysia, has been hoping for a long time to come up with a multibillion-dollar casino resort in the southern part of Florida.
Initially, they planned on getting the feedback from the US voters in 2014 election for getting their approval for the casino. However, now, they have abandoned the plan to do that.
Instead, the company is going to have a wait and watch approach. They are going to first find out the outcome of the 2-year look at gambling, which has been planned by the legislatures.
They would hope that at the end of the planned move by legislatures, the Florida State is going to legalize the concept of “Destination Casinos” in the state. It is going to give scope to the company for building a casino at a waterfront location, which is a prime property in Miami. At this moment, The Miami Herald occupies that prime location.
Brian Ballard, one of the lobbyists for Genting, said, “We believe that it is going to be more sensible to working with Senate and House in a more collaborative manner. It will help us in getting a better and fruitful result.”
This move is going to represent a huge shift for Genting, especially due to the fact that there is no guarantee, if the Florida lawmakers are going to change the existing law and give an approval for full-blown casinos operating from the state.
