Thomas McDermott Jr., who is the mayor of Hammond, initially didn’t give support to the concept of land-based casino in his area. He thought that it is going to affect the profit of the Horseshoe Casino, located in the city. However, he had a change in his thought process for the land-based option in Gary. And now, he is all set to have one in his city as well, as disclosed by the sources working close to him.
For a long time, Majestic Star casino has been looking to make its presence at a location in Gary. According to a report submitted by popular news sources, it is believed that this move is going to receive full support from The Mayor, in case the city of Hammond is going to receive a second casino license, which is currently associated with the Majestic Star.
Majestic Star currently operates with a 2-state casino licenses because when it was granted the license, the casino had two different owners. McDermott believes that if one of the licenses goes to Gary, the second one should go to Hammond.
He said, “They are going to have a Casino build up in Gary. I’m fine with that till the second casino is built in Hammond.”
Other politicians working in the state had mixed reaction to this move from McDermott. They are expecting that the license is going to get returned to the Indiana State. According to the report, they were surprised with the proposal put forward by the Hammond Mayor for the city.
