A lot depended upon the outcome of the vote on the New Hampshire Casino Bill, today. And it ended up with disappointment, as the results were against the bill 199-164. The bill was going to bring a huge change in the role of gambling industry in the New Hampshire State.
If the Senate Bill 152 would have received an approval from the voters, there was going to be an introduction of 5,000 video slots in the state. At the same time, there would also have been as many as 150 table games to find space in the casinos there. However, from the initial stage, it was expected that the results were likely to be quite close, as the opinions were pretty much divided amongst the Senate members.
The thing, which favored the New Hampshire State, was that its Governor, Maggie Hassan, was strongly in support of this legislation. However, it was a huge defeat for the supporters of the casino and the governor, as many voted against the legislation.
In a statement, Hassan said, “It was a disappointment seeing the House of Representatives breaking the general tradition of the New Hampshire State of having a thorough and open debate. With the SB 152 not getting the nod, it is going to become difficult for us to achieve our goals of having gambling legalized in the state. However, New Hampshire residents expect us to get results in difficult circumstances and we will try our best to achieve that.”
On the other hand, casino opponents believe that such legislation is going to increase gambling addiction, casino proliferation and crime across the state.
