When it comes to online gambling, regulations are becoming more difficult for operators. According to a British researcher, the reason behind the strict regulation is that it is giving scope for luring children towards gambling. This has introduced new sorts of problem gambling.
Mark Griffiths, who is a professor at the Nottingham Trent University of gambling studies, was conveying his findings to the participants at a conference, which was funded by the Connecticut Council for Problem Gambling. He said that technology is going to make gambling easily accessible. Gamblers might opt for online sites more and avoid the live casinos. This may end up leaving children, who trust almost all the websites, to mistakenly believe the point, which they are going to win at social networking sites, could be cashed in as well.
Griffiths said, “It is difficult to come up with a legislation that can prohibit children, who wish to gamble on Facebook or other social networking sites from home.”
Previously, US Laws prohibited online gambling across the stateliness. However, now, since the US Justice Department has narrowed this application only to sports wagering, a number of states have begun to take steps for allowing online gambling.
Chuck Bunnell, who is the Mohegan Tribe’s chief of staff for taking care of external affairs, also commented on the same conference that the federal approach for regulating internet betting might be a patchwork of different regulatory systems for different states across the country. He pointed out that there are several sites operating at this moment, which do not ask for verification of the age of the gambler. Some of them do not offer any safety features as well.
Don Feeney, who is Minnesota State Lottery’s research and planning director, pointed out that in spite of the popularity of online gambling, there are surveys confirming the presence of reluctance amongst players across the country. Most of them are concerned with respect to the websites’ legitimacy as well as its security. Again, others vary of the presence of professionals at the site, whereas some fear the fact that they will need to declare their financial information for participating at online casinos.
