According to American Indian Leaders, tribes, which have casinos there, are going to play a major role in any of the legislation that is going to legalize online gambling. They raised this point during a national tribal conference that took place only a few blocks away from the Capitol of the State.
At this stage, the situation is that the legislation for legalizing online gambling is languishing in Congress. However, there are possibilities that it might get some kind of a response during the lame-duck session, which is going to take place in the later part of the year.
Meanwhile, Sacramento, over the past few years, has seen the gaming bills getting stalled. The primary reason behind this has been the deep splits between the casinos and the tribes there. However, there are high chances that the legislation is likely going to resurface in the next year.
Mark Macarro is the chairman of Luiseno Indians’ Pechanga Band, which is based near Temecula. While addressing a crowd, who were a part of the National Conference for American Indians, Macarro said, “There is a shift taking place in the world of online gambling at this point of time. We believe that it is going to be absolutely imperative for us to get things right the first time only. Tribes from all corners should be prepared for addressing the impact of online gambling.”
At this stage, the Federal Government is banning online gambling. However, the law gives full freedom to states for allowing intrastate gaming.
